Charlotte Latin School is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic individual to join our Upper School Learning Resources faculty. The Upper School Learning Resources teacher provides individualized support to students who have been diagnosed with learning and/or attention disorders, as well as collaborating with school faculty and families to meet students’ needs. This position works closely with the Learning Resources Director, Division Head, teachers, parents, and students.
In addition, the US LR teacher oversees students’ accommodations and acts as a liaison between students, families, and classroom teachers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with the Director of Learning Resources and other Upper School Learning Resources Faculty.
Develop an understanding of each assigned student’s needs by reading cumulative files, confidential reports, and meeting with students, parents, teachers and advisors.
Create a schedule for each assigned student based on the frequency requested by parents and the student's class schedule.
Develop familiarity with the Upper School curriculum across subject areas in order to provide student support.
Provide individualized instruction/coaching for each student based on his/her learning profile and classroom assignments. Modify instruction/coaching as needed throughout the year.
Monitor assigned students’ academic performance through grades and teacher/advisor feedback. Help students understand current academic standing.
Develop students’ skills of self-awareness and self-advocacy to enable increasing independence in students.
Serve as an advocate and liaison for students with their advisors and teachers.
Communicate with parents to provide an awareness of their student’s attendance, participation and level of responsibility. Offer suggestions for support at home.
Write an annual summary of work with each student to be shared with parents and filed in their permanent cumulative file.
Attend Upper School Faculty meetings and division events.
Participate in Learning Resources department meetings and professional development.
Report billing to the Director of Learning Resources according to monthly deadlines as set by the Business Office.

Education and Experience
Desirable candidates will display strong collegiality, a sincere interest in contributing to student success, and a philosophical alignment with our core values and curriculum.
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required; master’s degree preferred
Experience working with students with learning differences (primarily learning disabilities and ADHD) required
Experience with high school-aged students preferred
Experience in an independent school preferred
Experience with executive skills coaching preferred
Skills
Demonstrates excellent writing and speaking skills with the ability and confidence to communicate with all constituents of Charlotte Latin
Willingness to initiate proactive communication with the Learning Resources Director about concerns or issues involving students or parents
Adheres to the highest level of professionalism
Ability to assess and differentiate multiple viewpoints and clarify issues for students, parents, teachers, or others
