Compensation and Benefits
This position is full-time and based on a 12-month schedule with five weeks of vacation. Flexibility and availability to work hours outside the regular school day are required. Santa Fe Preparatory seeks an experienced, dynamic, and collaborative Athletic Director to lead, manage and serve as the ambassador for Santa Fe Prep’s athletic programs. Working in close partnership with the Head of School, the senior leadership team, and the Assistant Athletic Director, the Athletic Director will sustain and elevate all aspects of the program, including recruitment, training and support of the coaching staff, designing innovative programs for student-athletes, and managing facilities and budgets. This person will operate in conjunction with other program leaders in the areas of academics, arts, and applied learning to support students’ well-being in their various pursuits as they develop their potential throughout their time at Prep, and prepare for lives beyond it. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of success as a coach, athletic director, and member of a school leadership team.
The Athletic Director demonstrates the following strengths to contribute to the school’s operations:
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of all aspects of PE, athlete development, including conditioning and strength development, team membership and sportsperson-like conduct.
Serve as the primary ambassador to both the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA), as well as the greater Santa Fe Prep community, to advocate for and fulfill the needs of a comprehensive athletic program.
Ability to supervise and manage staff and operations, to work on multiple projects and assignments concurrently while prioritizing projects.
A strong spokesperson for Santa Fe Prep’s mission, interests and needs. This includes building a strong social media and business presence, and reporting out to key stakeholders in order to successfully represent Santa Fe Prep to prospective, current, and past students and families.
Ability to work in a team environment with other school leaders and to effectively build positive working relationships both within and outside the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Oversight:
Sustain and improve an aligned and comprehensive athletic program to help student-athletes and coaches thrive and deliver Santa Fe Prep core values.
Recruit, hire, train, support, and supervise highly qualified coaching staff.
Evaluate coaching performance and provide professional development opportunities.
Monitor academic eligibility requirements for student-athletes, in conjunction with the division heads.
Coordinate and manage all aspects of athletic teams, including practices, games, and end-of-season competitions.
Design and deliver relevant education and professional development for coaches, parents and athletes.
Facility Management:
Partner with our Director of Facilities to oversee the maintenance and upkeep of athletic facilities, including fields, courts, and equipment.
Schedule and coordinate facility usage for practices, games, and other events.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and risk management procedures.
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with coaches, student-athletes, parents, faculty, and administration.
Promote the athletic program through various channels, including social media, school publications, and local media.
Collaborate with academic departments to ensure student-athletes maintain academic eligibility.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the athletic department budget, in conjunction with the Head of School and Chief Financial Officer.
Monitor expenses and revenue to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Seek out and secure funding opportunities for the athletic program.
Risk Management:
Implement and enforce relevant safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Coordinate with school leadership on relevant medical forms for athletes.
Maintain a system for accurate records of injuries and incidents.
Stay informed of relevant regulations and guidelines.
Proven experience as an athletic director or in a similar role.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Be exceptionally organized, accurate, flexible, and a quick learner.
Knowledge of athletic rules, regulations, and best practices.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
First aid and CPR certification.
