COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary range is $85,000-$136,000 and is based on education and years of teaching experience. Pinewood offers comprehensive benefits to employees. POSITION SUMMARY:
Pinewood is seeking a full-time, K-6 Math Specialist for the 2025-26 academic year. The K-6 Math Specialist provides expertise in mathematics instruction and leadership across the K-6 grade levels, with a particular emphasis on supporting sixth-grade math classes through extension activities. This role combines direct student engagement, teacher coaching, and departmental leadership to enhance math education at Pinewood School. The Math Specialist ensures alignment with curriculum standards, supports differentiation and promotes innovative practices that help students think mathematically and develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
K-6 Department Leadership:
Serve as the K-6 Math Department Chair, coordinating department meetings and fostering collaboration among teachers.
Act as a liaison between the administration and faculty, ensuring clear communication of department goals and initiatives.
Lead the implementation of the newly adopted mathematics textbook.
Advocate for professional development opportunities that support math instruction.
Monitor and analyze student performance data to inform instruction and improve outcomes.
Collaborate with Upper Campus math department
Teacher Coaching and Collaboration:
Conduct regular classroom visits and provide coaching to K-6 teachers to enhance math instruction and differentiation for diverse learners.
Support teachers in implementing math centers, conceptually rich activities, and inquiry-based instructional strategies.
Offer guidance on the integration of manipulatives, visual models, and technology in math lessons.
Share resources and best practices to promote student engagement and mathematical thinking.
Sixth Grade Math Support (50%):
Collaborate with the sixth-grade math teacher to develop and implement extension activities that challenge advanced learners.
Facilitate small group instruction, math centers, and inquiry-based workshops to provide targeted advancement and support.
Utilize manipulatives, interactives, and other hands-on resources to deepen mathematical understanding and inquiry.
Support students in developing problem-solving strategies and mathematical reasoning skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to spend long hours sitting, using computers and office equipment
Ability to reach out, stoop, kneel, crouch, occasionally to answer phones, maintain office equipment, retrieve items from overhead storage and carry files
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education or a related field is required. Master’s degree and/or a K-8 teaching credential or a secondary math teaching credential is desired.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in classroom teaching
Experience teaching Middle School math, ideally through Geometry, is preferred
Strong knowledge of math pedagogy, curriculum standards, and best practices for K-6 learners.
