The Grade Dean collaborates with grade advisors and faculty to help students meet both curricular and extracurricular expectations. Additionally, the Grade Dean communicates directly with parents about grade-level programs and serves as a liaison among stakeholders to address the developmental needs of the grade.
Anticipated start date: August 2025
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and lead grade-level programming that fosters class cohesion and identity.
Serve as a resource for students, advisors, teachers, and parents to support problem-solving.
Foster collaboration within the advisor team, including planning advisor team meetings.
Work with the grade team to organize annual class trips and student and family events.
Act as the first point of contact for student discipline regarding non-major offenses and collaborate with the faculty coordinators of the Student-Faculty Judiciary Committee to ensure a fair and effective disciplinary process.
Meet once per cycle with the Student Support Team (psychologist, counselor, school nurse, learning specialist, fellow class deans, and the Head of Upper School) to discuss students of concern and design action plans.
Oversee course registration to ensure students meet graduation requirements, resolve scheduling conflicts, and coordinate with students and the Registrar as needed.
Support the implementation of administrative, extracurricular, co-curricular, and academic programs as required.
Maintain positive and open communication with parents, building strong, supportive relationships.
Please note that this is a hybrid administrative position that combines the Grade Dean role with teaching or other responsibilities, determined by the applicant’s expertise and the school’s needs. This is a 10-month position, running from mid-August through the end of June. Packer expects the Grade Dean to remain in this role for four years, supporting the Class of 2029 through graduation.
