As a Technology Support Specialist at McLean, you’ll be the superhero who keeps the School’s tech running smoothly. From troubleshooting hardware hiccups to supporting classroom tech adventures, you’ll be the friendly face (or voice) to our end users.
Responsibilities
Respond promptly to technical support requests from faculty, staff, students, parents, and other community members.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues for devices such as laptops (primarily macOS based), tablets (iOS based), Chromebooks, interactive projectors, printers, and other peripherals.
Support school-wide systems, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), Student Information Systems (SIS), and other educational platforms.
Heavy G-Suite administration.
Light Active Directory and Windows Server administration.
Create and maintain up-to-date documentation and training materials.
Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and network equipment.
Maintain accurate inventory and documentation of district technology assets.
Monitor system performance and report potential issues within the IT team or potentially to external vendors.
Stay current on emerging technologies and recommend improvements to systems and tools.
Ensure the school tech policies are followed, protecting our digital environment from data breaches.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology, which may include occasional weekend or evening hours.
Competencies
Expert knowledge and experience in configuration and troubleshooting of computer hardware and operating systems, including MacOS, Windows, Chrome OS, and iOS.
Expert in G-Suite cloud computing, productivity, and collaboration tools.
Familiarity with G-Suite administration.
Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail and the ability to move among multiple tasks and projects with ease, maintaining multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to communicate verbally and in written context in a friendly, professional, and timely manner with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Must have a deep curiosity to explore and learn new technologies.
Familiarity with mobile device management platforms, JAMF experience preferred.
Basic Active Directory and Microsoft Windows Server administration experience.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite.
Experience with Student Information Systems, Blackbaud experience preferred
Basic knowledge of network topology and wireless networking.
Basic knowledge of PBX and VOIP telephone systems.
Ability to create training and documentation materials.
Ability to manipulate databases and spreadsheets for information gathering and reporting.
Qualifications - Required
Minimum of one year of full-time equivalent work experience in technology support.
Comfort and empathy when working with students, teachers, parents, and administrators on a day-to-day basis.
Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday from 7:45 am to 4:30 pm during regular school and after school hours.
Qualifications - Preferred
Prior experience and/or exceptional ability in interacting with elementary, middle, and high school-age children.
Knowledge of Blackbaud Systems is a plus (Student Information, Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge).
Prior experience with G Suite administration.
Prior experience managing databases and spreadsheets.
CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent is a plus.
Basic scripting skills, such as Python or shell scripting is a bonus.
