St. John’s Prep is an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School for young men in grades 6 through 12. Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Director of Summer Programming will work closely with the Managing Director of Strategic Programs to ensure the effective management and delivery of all aspects of our summer camp programs. This is a twelve-month, full-time position. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a passion for providing high-quality camp experiences for children and teens.
Assist the Managing Director of Strategic Programs in developing and implementing strategic plans, goals, and objectives for the summer camp programs, ensuring they align with the School’s mission while addressing the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of children through engaging and purposeful programming.
Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of camp staff, ensuring they are well-prepared and motivated to deliver a high-quality camp experience.
Provide leadership and support to Camp Administrators, Camp Division Leaders, and other staff members, fostering a culture of teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
Supervise camp leadership in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the summer camp programs, including staff supervision, program development, and camper support.
Collaborate with the Managing Director of Strategic Programs and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of campers and staff, including the implementation of health and safety protocols and risk management strategies.
Work with local licensing authorities to ensure that the programs remain compliant with local and state regulations, and ensure compliance with the State of Massachusetts regulatory standards for summer camps.
Build and maintain positive relationships with campers, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners, serving as a liaison and advocate for the summer camp programs.
Manage social media and website content for the summer camp programs, ensuring effective communication, brand alignment, and engagement with campers and families.
Assist in the evaluation of summer camp programs, gathering feedback from stakeholders, analyzing data, and making recommendations for improvements and enhancements.
Stay current on trends, best practices, and regulations in the camp industry, incorporating new ideas and innovations into camp operations and programming.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Education, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in camp management, program development, or related field, with demonstrated leadership abilities.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Knowledge of camp operations, regulations, and industry standards, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and quality.
Experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a camp or educational setting.
Proficiency in budget management, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
Ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the summer camp season.
Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
