National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a part-time Director of the Lower School’s Extended Day and Enrichment Program for an appointment beginning August 14, 2025. This four-part position involves: 1) leading students in grades 4 to 6 through daily activities and assisting with homework in the Extended Day Program; 2) securing, coordinating, and managing four to six after-school enrichment classes and instructors each trimester; 3); providing class coverage for absent teachers in grades 4-12; and 4) coordinating a week-long Cathedral Cubs camp in August.
The hours of the position are 10:30am to 6:00pm daily. The Extended Day Program takes place from 3:30 to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. Enrichment Program classes run weekly and last one hour; the offerings change each trimester. Providing class coverage for teachers is from 10:30am to 3:00pm. There is the ability to earn additional sub-coverage money from 8:00am to 10:30am as needed and desired. The Cathedral Cubs camp, for the children of faculty and staff of NCS and St. Albans School takes place in mid-August during back-to-school meetings with exact dates and times determined annually.
Among the Extended Day duties assigned to this position:
Facilitate and enhance an organized and well-run Extended Day program.
Assist students in a variety of curricular activities, arts and crafts, games, and homework.
Build positive relationships with students by interacting with them on a continuous basis.
Provide care and work with students to ensure their social and developmental needs are met.
Provide positive guidance and discipline according to school policy.
Maintain the safety of all students.
Oversee a program assistant.
Oversee the budget; order program supplies and daily snacks; track substitutes as needed and approve substitute pay.
Among the Enrichment Program duties assigned to this position:
Research, select, and contract 4-6 outside instructors and/or NCS faculty to teach Enrichment courses each trimester.
Promote Enrichment classes to the community to attract sufficient sign-ups.
Ensure all aspects of the program run smoothly including assigning classroom spaces, managing enrichment class registration, attendance, pick-up, and discipline issues.
Write class descriptions, announcements regarding sign-up, and online registration information.
Serve as a point of contact for all program instructors as well as a liaison between instructors and parents.
Oversee the budget and submit billing information each trimester.
Among the class coverage duties assigned to this position:
Serve as a substitute teacher for last-minute or planned absences by period for teachers in a variety of subjects and grades.
Track coverage completed weekly.
Among the Cathedral Cubs duties assigned to this position:
Assume leadership role for NCS in all aspects of Cathedral Cubs program (e.g., coordinating communications and payment, determining and hiring appropriate staffing levels, coordinating logistics with the other participating schools).
Purchase all the necessary supplies and snacks.
Working conditions:
The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
The position requires near and far vision.
The need to lift, drag, push and pull files, reports, and other materials weighing up to 15 pounds is required.

Minimum qualifications:
Previous experience developing and leading activities for children ages 8-12, preferably in an educational environment (school, after-school program, camp, or day care center).
College degree.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Knowledge of the principles of positive youth development.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a variety of audiences, including faculty, staff, children, and parents.
Ability to work without supervision; to organize, set priorities, and execute multiple concurrent tasks; to anticipate needs and respond accordingly; and to perform with a high degree of initiative.
First aid and CPR certification within last 3 months preferred (certification may be completed during training period, before working with the children).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the NCS Lower School (grades 4-6) as well as within National Cathedral School, St. Albans School, and Beauvoir School.
