Glenelg Country School in Ellicott City, MD seeks an Upper School Humanities Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The teaching assignment will include a mix of four core sections with the possibility of one elective section, shaped as needed by expanding enrollment and a dedications to small class sizes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate versatility in knowledge and experience, with the ability to teach literature as well as ancient and medieval history. Experience in additional Humanities disciplines, including art history, music history and archaeology, will be significant advantages.
Writing and research instruction and a high level of comfort exploring non-Western texts, art, and perspectives are important parts of the job. The successful candidate will bring to GCS a love of working with adolescents and the ability to differentiate instruction among a wide range of learners with appropriate use of educational technologies. All full-time Upper School teachers contribute to clubs and enrichment activities and advise a group of ten to eleven students for their entire Upper School career.
Education and Experience: A B.A. or B.S. degree is required. Experience working with middle school or high school students is a significant advantage.

Instruction in history and literature and the cultural context informing each
Development of a sense of partnership among students and between students and the teacher
Assessment and evaluation of student progress
Implementation of teaching strategies, activities and approaches to learning

Supervision of student behavior and coverage of colleagues’ classes as needed

Compensation:
GCS offers a competitive salary and full benefits package including health insurances, retirement plan, and leave benefits. The salary range for this position is $50,000 – $70,000.
