Program Overview:
Established in 2007, the High School High Scholar (HS)² program at Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) is a three-summer scholarship program with an emphasis on courses in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and college counseling. (HS)² supports first-generation and/or low-income students and prepares them to succeed in college by empowering them with STEM-based skills, a family of driven peers, and a space to see the light and power in their own voices.
During five weeks each summer, (HS)² scholars live and learn on the CRMS campus in Carbondale, Colorado. On weekdays, students attend six hours of academic classes. In the afternoons, they participate in the Active Program, which includes rock climbing, kayaking, and team sports, as well as art classes such as silversmithing, ceramics, and music. On weekends, the natural environment surrounding the campus inspires exploration. This unique combination of challenging academics and outdoor activities contributes to the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of each (HS)2 scholar, while the boarding experience fosters independence and responsibility.
Position Overview: (HS)² is hiring Mathematics (Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus) and Computer Science teachers to instruct small-group, hands-on courses for the duration of our five-week summer program at Colorado Rocky Mountain School.
Role and Responsibilities:
Teach one or two courses which meet for 110 minutes each per day, Monday through Friday
Support students in Study Hall two nights per week
Chaperone students on one off-campus trip and one on-campus social event
Opportunity to mentor a Teaching Assistant
Qualifications: Strong candidates will have significant teaching experience, strong content knowledge of one of the (HS)² subjects, and genuinely enjoy working with high school students. Salary is commensurate with teaching experience.
2025 Dates: All teachers will arrive on campus Thursday, June 19th and depart Sunday, July 27th. All (HS)² students will arrive on campus on Monday, June 23rd and depart on Saturday, July 26th.
Compensation Package: Housing and all meals are provided. Salary range: $3,000-$7,000 for five weeks, dependent on number of courses instructed and experience.
Application Procedure: Before completing the application, please read through the (HS)² website https://hs2.crms.org/. Completed applications are reviewed and candidates are chosen on a rolling basis until staffing is complete, although preference is given to applications received before March 1, 2025.
Interviews and Hiring: After your application has been received, you will be contacted via email to inform you of your applicant status, and if appropriate, to set up a phone or Zoom interview. When deciding to accept an offer, applicants should remember that, although the (HS)² summer session is only five weeks, it is an intense, rigorous, and challenging program for both students and faculty.
If you have any questions, please contact Annie Oppenheim, Program Director, at aoppenheim@crms.org.
The Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) is a college-preparatory independent high school located thirty miles northwest of Aspen in the mountains of western Colorado. CRMS’s average enrollment is 175 students in grades 9-12 from various countries. Key to the underpinnings of our progressive and experiential program is close faculty-student relationships and a skill-based academic curriculum balanced with outdoor activities that challenge young people to develop skills, judgment, responsibility, as well as a service ethic. Also significant are tasks related to daily life and the well being of the community. Our balanced curriculum of rigorous college-preparatory courses, wilderness education, and service learning, all in a residential setting, allows students to cultivate academic excellence, critical thinking, and community-mindedness.
