Saddle River Day School, a close community of learners, is looking for a full-time First Grade Head teacher to join our Lower School team in the fall of 2025.

Our teachers play a key role in curriculum design and work collaboratively with one another both inside and outside of their department to prepare a course of instruction that meets the social, emotional, and academic needs of each individual learner. Responsibilities
Collaborate to develop a curriculum that meets the social, emotional, and academic needs of students in the program.
Plan, develop, and implement creative, rigours, and engaging learning lessons that foster the development of academic skills in math and literacy according to school standards.
Clearly and effectively communicate with families about their child’s academic, social and emotional growth and development.
Create a classroom community where each child feels valued as an individual.
Teach assigned subjects to first grade students according to curriculum plans.
Coordinate with the other first grade and Lower School teachers to maintain consistency in curriculum.
Motivate students to participate in various educational activities.
Create a positive, structured, learning and safe environment for students.
Develop and maintain student behavioral and discipline policies.
Coordinate with other staff members to evaluate and enhance curricular programs for student academic excellence.
Accommodate different learning styles and instruction methodology for students’ various learning styles and needs.
Use different assessment methods to evaluate student progress, their academic strengths and weaknesses.
Maintain accurate attendance and grade records for each student.
Assist in planning and implementing school programs and other activities.
Develop positive family/teacher relationships and promote family/teacher partnerships.
Monitor student activities on school premises and ensure safety of every student in the classroom and school grounds.
Attend educational training and workshops for professional growth.
Saddle River Day School, located in the hills of Saddle River, New Jersey, was founded in 1957. Its student body of over 450 boys and girls is drawn from communities across New Jersey and New York.
