Objective: To lead all aspects of the intramural and interscholastic athletic programs and fitness curriculum for Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership for the entire athletic program that includes best practices for coaches, student-athlete development, and program management to continually enhance the athletic program.
Collaborate with all constituencies to ensure the athletic program objectives are aligned with the school’s mission, values, and culture.
Establish a culture within the athletic department that ensures a sense of fairness and equality among all sports.
Develop and enforce procedures to ensure student-athletes and coaches are following all Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) guidelines..
Identify, develop, and support coaching staff who is properly trained in all organizational, health and safety, and philosophical aspects of the athletic program.
Ensure all coaches are performing their duties at the highest level of professionalism and are committed to student success.
Ensure the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment and athletic facilities, fields, and courts, working in coordination with the Director of North Campus Facilities and Operations.
Serve as the primary contact, maintain relationship, and coordinate needs and requests of the medical team for student athletes.
Ensure the integrity and fairness of all sports’ tryouts and selection processes, including appropriate and timely notifications that honors the dignity of students regarding their selection.
Collaborate with the Sports Information Director and Office of Advancement to publicize and promote student-athletes and their achievements.
Oversee athletic operations including scheduling of all athletic contests, arranging for transportation, scheduling game administrators, and hiring of all game officials .
Maintain records of team and individual athletic accomplishments.
Maintain and revise the coaches’ and athletes’ manuals each year and conduct appropriate, annual meetings with coaches and families of athletes to review the information and standards in detail.
Collaborate with the division heads and other divisional leaders, such as counselors, college counselors, learning support, and dean of students, to ensure student-athletes are supported in academics, athletics, and overall health and wellbeing.Ensure effective communication and build mutual understanding between faculty and coaches..
Develop and implement a plan to build interest and engage students in athletic programs beginning in Lower School through Upper School.
Maintain an adequate balance of resources, time, and attendance to all sports in efforts to demonstrate institutional support for all athletes.
Conduct regular meetings for the athletic department staff to coordinate responsibilities and discuss matters of concern.
Serve as the primary liaison between the school and MHSAA.
Serve as one of the principal liaisons between the school and the St. Andrew’s Booster Club.
Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and provide strategic direction for athletics staff and coaches.
Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and manage the athletics budget.
Serve on the school’s Senior Leadership Team.
Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional school environment. Physical demands include being able to lift 20 lbs. of athletic equipment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Travel and frequent weekend and evening work will be required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
A minimum of five years of coaching experience and/or athletic administration in a school environment preferred.
Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective, professional relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and guests.
High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated success in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Deep appreciation and understanding of St. Andrew’s mission and the ability to articulate and align its values and vision with the athletic program.
Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex projects
