Berkshire Country Day School seeks an experienced and versatile middle and intermediate school teacher to design, institute, and lead a Science program for students in Fourth through Eighth Grade. This opportunity is ideal for a self motivated, innovative teacher who has a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors. The Science instructional space is its own building set next to a vernal stream and hemmed with perennial gardens. It includes a large classroom, a 150-gallon fish tank, and a spacious and light-filled lab. The 26 acre campus has a large inhabited pond and trails for exploration

This position reports to the Associate Head of School.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Demonstrates flexibility and a collaborative spirit to teach across disciplines, including life science, physical science, earth science, astronomy, technology, environmental science, ecology, and sustainability.
Plans and delivers differentiated, student-centered units and lessons that inspire engagement and curiosity through multiple modes of instruction and learning: direct, project-based, problem-based, inquiry based, collaborative, etc.
Assess student work and provide meaningful feedback to students regularly and use data to inform decisions about student learning
Collaborates the Director of STEAM Learning and Innovation, as well as with other teachers, educators, and specialist teachers to develop integrated curriculum, plan trips and special projects, and solve problems.
Establishes best practices in education and classroom management, and strives to prepare students for success in secondary school
Maintains lab space and inventory to ensure safety regulations are followed across all science classroom spaces.
Works collaboratively to design and continuously improve the academic program
Creates an inclusive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for community behavior.
Embraces the School’s natural setting and the outdoors
Views SEL and anti-biased, anti-racist pedagogy as part of the daily approach to interacting with both the student and faculty community
Nurtures and supporst an advisee group of up to 12 students
Communicates proactively and consistently with students, families, faculty and administrators regarding student growth and development via formal and informal conferences, written reports, emails, and classroom updates
Attends required in-service days, faculty meetings, admissions open houses, back-to-school night, parent conferences, and training sessions as designated
Supervises students outside the classroom as assigned (recess, lunch, etc.)
Responds to parent inquiries promptly and appropriately.
Completes all grading, comments and notes on a timely basis
Adheres to guidelines, procedures, and policies in the Employee Handbook

Requirements
Teaching experience at the Intermediate and Middle School level
Bachelors's Degree, Master's degree in related field preferred
Understanding of child development and fondness for the mercurial nature of Intermediate and middle school students
Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a dynamic school community
Ability to work in a collegial and highly collaborative environment
A growth mindset, creative approach, and excellent organizational and communication skills
Training, demonstrated professional development, or certification in teaching and learning
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
