Position Title: Upper School English Teacher
Germantown Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on a beautiful 126-acre campus in the Fort Washington suburbs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school serves more than 1,200 students in grades PK-12. Hold a BA in English Literature or English Education, MA or PhD preferred
Have a minimum of 3 years teaching English at the high school level
Are passionate about working with and supporting upper school-aged students (Grades 9-12)
Demonstrate a commitment to student-centered learning and a history of open collaboration to teaching and learning and a growth mindset as a teacher and professional
Possess the cultural competency necessary for working with a diverse population in an equitable and inclusive community; demonstrated history in teaching a culturally responsive curriculum
Demonstrate the flexibility to use technology in support of student learning and other professional responsibilities
Communicate well, both in writing and verbally, with colleagues, students, and families
Model a culture of flexible, continuous learning to challenge and support students
Core Job Responsibilities
This role is a full-time teaching position with the following major responsibilities:
Teach diverse literature from various cultures, time periods, and genres
Teach as a member of the 9th or 10th grade core teams and partner with colleagues on curricular alignment and design
Design and teach original seminar courses for juniors and seniors focused on themes, genres, or literary periods
Passionate and knowledgeable about high school students, literature, and writing; an experienced teacher of close reading and analytical writing skills
Serve as an Advisor to 10-12 Upper School students
Be a leader in the school’s co-curricular program in meaningful ways outside the classroom by coaching, leading extra-curricular activities, etc.
