The Lower School program at The Bolles School serves children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, fostering a love of learning in an intimate and innovative environment. Position Purpose: To inspire a love for reading and writing in 3rd-grade students through engaging and developmentally appropriate language arts instruction.
Essential Functions:
Plan materials and class activities to support the development of students’ abilities and skills.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate students' varying needs and interests.
Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and practice, providing students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons.
Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
Meet with teachers, parents, and guardians to discuss students' progress and identify their priorities and resource needs.
Provide a variety of materials and resources for students to explore, manipulate, and use in both learning activities and imaginative play.
Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of lower school programs.
Maintain attendance and grade records as required by the School.
Pursue professional development opportunities (e.g., further education, reading, workshops, conferences) and demonstrate initiative in staying current within the discipline, including the latest technology use in the classroom.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
A minimum of three years of experience teaching elementary-aged children in a school setting is preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership and facilitation abilities.
Strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in the use of technology in the classroom.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom or school campus for extended periods.
Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, such as books, classroom materials, or equipment.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch as needed for classroom activities or assisting students.
Visual and auditory ability to monitor student performance and safety.
Ability to use classroom technology, including interactive boards, projectors, and other multimedia tools.
