The Savannah Country Day School is seeking an Upper School Science teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. This faculty member will primarily teach chemistry courses, and also teach either physics or biology courses, for a maximum class load of five (5). SCDS has a physics-first curriculum, with tenth graders taking chemistry (honors option), and eleventh graders taking biology. Standard duties for this position include the preparation of course objectives and outlines for course of study, in conjunction with the Department Chair, and following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the school. Qualified candidates should have a passion for helping students to explore science using a variety of pedagogical techniques. A willingness to engage in a critical dialogue about instructional practice with peers, and a desire to be involved in a wide range of school activities in and outside of the classroom are also essential. The ability to coach a sport is highly desirable. All Upper School teachers are required to lead or assist with at least one extracurricular, and also serve as advisors. Candidates with a diversity of skills in the science disciplines are encouraged to apply. SCDS opened a new STEM building in the fall of 2022, complete with a new maker space, therefore we are excited to attract candidates with STEM experience.

Physical Demands: Work is typically performed in a classroom or laboratory environment, with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The employee occasionally lifts or carries objects of a light-medium weight, up to 25 pounds. Exposure to chemicals or fumes is possible in the laboratory environment. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field, as well as five (5) or more years of teaching experience. Advanced degrees are preferred.
The ability to teach a range of courses, from regular, to honors and Advanced is strongly desired.

Excellent communication skills and a willingness to function as part of the Science Department team is desired.
