About Us: Bay Ridge Prep is a student-centered, K-12 independent school located in the beautiful Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Position Summary: Bay Ridge Prep seeks a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeper/Assistant to Business Manager to assist with the financial operations of our school and support the Business Manager in administrative and strategic tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle all aspects of bookkeeping independently.
Reporting to the Business Manager, this is a full-time, in-person position, including during the summer months of July and August.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and oversee all financial records for accounts payable, including processing purchase orders and tracking deliveries.
Assist the Financial Assistant with reconciling bank statements.
Assist the Financial Assistant with preparing monthly financial statements and reports for management and the board of directors.
Support the Business Manager in administrative and strategic tasks.
Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and school policies.
Provide financial data and analysis as requested by the administration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
At least 2 - 5 years of experience as a bookkeeper in a non-profit educational organization.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Ability to learn and navigate other database systems.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Retirement Plan: Bay Ridge Prep offers a generous 403B retirement plan through TIAA-CREF. For full-time employees, the school makes an annual contribution equal to 3% of salary plus a matching contribution of up to an additional 4% of salary based on the employee’s additional contributions.

Time Off: vacation, sick time, and personal time are included.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: This job requires the ability to maintain the physical capacity required to navigate the school environment and office environment. The role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, and electronic devices. Travel between school buildings and the business office may be required and facilities are within walking distance.
