JOB DESCRIPTION: St. Paul’s School seeks an Associate Dean of Students to begin duties in July 2025. The Associate Dean of Students will be a key member of our student life team, bringing both sound independent judgement and a collaborative spirit to the work of supporting the growth and wellbeing of adolescents. The primary responsibilities will include shared oversight on student attendance and restorative accountability systems, planning and supervising weekend events, and the creation and execution of initiatives to foster a kind, inclusive student culture. This position requires someone with energy and enthusiasm, outstanding people skills, a sense of humor, meaningful experience working with adolescents, and demonstrated leadership in a school or community-based organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The mission of the St. Paul’s School Dean of Students Office is to ensure that St. Paul’s is a community in which students grow and thrive by teaching responsible behavior, communicating clear expectations, promoting positive behaviors, and holding students accountable. We strive to create and sustain an environment in which “being kind and living honorably” is the norm. The major areas of desired capacity and corresponding workload performed by an Associate Dean include (1) teaching, training, and collaboration with students and key stakeholders to build healthy community, (2) facilitating communication and sharing supervision of the residential life related programs (3) supporting the development of pro-social skills and holding students accountable through established, restorative discipline structures. The Associate Dean also teaches courses within the Living in Community (LINC) curriculum. As a member of the faculty, the successful candidate will participate in a variety of activities typical to the boarding school environment, including coaching, advising, committee work, and other duties. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor of Arts degree, its equivalent, or higher (Masters preferred).
The Associate Dean must contribute actively to the academic, athletic, residential, and co-curricular programs offered by the School. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Ability to think critically and solve problems, as well as handle multiple projects simultaneously
Good judgment and discretion in handling confidential/sensitive information
Knowledge of social emotional competency areas and adolescent development
Knowledge of prevention strategies for addressing unhealthy relationships, alcohol and drugs
Cross-cultural competence in working with populations of diverse cultures and identities
Experience: It is preferred, but not necessary, that candidates have experience in a boarding school environment.
