Roles and Responsibilities: 

CSS is seeking an innovative and creative educator with a broad skill set in science. A successful candidate will be required to work across divisions, developing the fundamentals of science for grade PreK - 8th grade. In doing so, the strongest candidate will be able to assess the current program needs in order to advance STEM and a love of hands-on education. This position reports directly to the Lower and Middle School Director and/or Assistant Division Director and will have a variety of responsibilities related to delivering the school program.

The position’s preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of science curriculum instruction trends of 21st-century learners
• Bachelor's or advanced degree (Preferred) in fields of science, math, engineering, or computer science
• Experience teaching students from Kindergarten through eighth grades
• Innovative mindset with strong skills in communication, collaboration, project-based learning, and technology

The K-8 STEM Teacher will:

• Design and support a differentiated and globally integrated curriculum that includes student engagement through project-based learning, hands-on activities, experimentation and iteration, and other active approaches to learning
• Take a student-centered approach by providing responsive instruction, including differentiation and flexibility to adjust plans when needed
• Use activities and a variety of assessment types to assess student learning and monitor growth
• Stay updated on current science instruction methods and research
• Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement
• Potentially serve as an advisor for a group of 8-10 students, providing guidance in academic, extracurricular, social, and personal areas and serving as the school’s key liaison to parents for this group of students
• Serve as an instructor in our signature experiential learning opportunities both on campus and in the field throughout the year, which sometimes require travel
• Attend all faculty meetings, department meetings, and other meetings as required
• Be able to collaborate effectively and facilitate the development of a positive class culture that supports learning and personal growth
• Complete grades/comments, advisor letters, and other forms of academic communication in a timely, professional manner
• Appreciate and support varying learning abilities through robust lesson planning and rigorous assessment
• Provide regular and valuable student feedback and maintain assessment records
• Promote the development of character, community, and curiosity in all dealings with students, including enforcing school rules
• Know the developmental and academic abilities of one’s students and communicate with students and families regularly
• Be involved in the school community at large and participate in and contribute to a Community of Belonging in formal or informal ways
• Adhere to the standards described in the Employee Handbook
• Perform various student supervisory duties
