St. Andrew’s Episcopal School seeks to hire an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and passionate full-time Middle School (6-8) Latin teacher starting in August of 2025. Preferred candidates will be eager to make introductory Latin and Roman culture accessible to middle school students and collaborate regularly with the K-12 Modern and Classical Languages Department. Candidates are expected to have experience with middle school students, the Inductive or Reading method, Comprehensible Input/TPRS methods, and an openness to using spoken Latin and gamification in the classroom. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive classroom environment that promotes a variety of interpretations of the ancient world and helps students see a richly diverse and inclusive narrative about the value of Latin in the modern world.
Qualified candidates will be passionate and accomplished teachers of Latin with student-centered pedagogy, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong communication and organizational skills. Deep knowledge of classical mythology, Roman culture and history, and Latin roots are essential for helping to engage students thoughtfully with the ancient world. A bachelor’s degree or higher is required(preferably in Latin or a related field), as well as classroom teaching experience. In addition, experience using the Suburani course, coaching Certamen, and/or participating in the Junior Classical League are strongly preferred.
Act as an advisor for 8-10 students daily - provide academic support, social emotional development, & facilitate discussions regarding inclusion & belonging
Attend daily chapel with their advisory
Employ a “student-first” mindset when supporting students & families
Prioritize student relationships & foster a safe & predictable environment
Attend at least one overnight trip yearly with the grade level they advise
Attend weekly meetings to facilitate growth & learning: full faculty, team-level, & department as needed
Utilize professional development opportunities to continue growth in their craft
Strive to connect & collaborate with other disciplines
Offer one elective choice for students to grow their interests in one of the four pillars (Scholar, Artist, Athlete, Servant)
Are team players & open to serve the community in other ways that arise throughout a school year
