Tenacre Country Day School is seeking a Pre-Kindergarten Homeroom Teacher to start for the 2025-2026 academic year. Tenacre’s mission is to nurture and challenge each child, every day. Position Summary:
Homeroom teachers support the educational mission of Tenacre by developing and teaching writing, reading, math, and social studies skills and curriculum, as well as supporting students' social-emotional growth at a single grade level. This position includes working closely with a grade-level co-teacher and a larger team of special subject and support teachers, administrators, parents, and, when necessary, outside support professionals.
Knowledge of and expertise in teaching at the early elementary level, preferably in Pre-K or Kindergarten
Early childhood experience teaching math, reading, writing, and social studies
Strong written and oral communication skills
Responsibilities:
Faculty are required to follow the protocols outlined in the annually revised Faculty and Staff Handbook. In addition, homeroom teachers work in collaboration with a grade-level co-teacher to:
Design and deliver age-appropriate writing, reading, spelling, math, and social studies curriculum to 4 and 5-year-old students in whole groups and small groups
Promote the social and emotional development of students through support and instruction
Engage in inclusive instruction that welcomes diverse identities, backgrounds, and learning styles
Document and update curriculum annually in curriculum maps
Maintain regular communication with parents, including weekly updates
Write narrative report cards and hold parent/guardian conferences two times a year for each student
Participate in student focus, faculty, and committee meetings to ensure educational goals are being met
Participate in professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops for professional development
Order and manage supplies for classroom educational needs while staying within the classroom budget
Perform related duties such as recess and lunch table supervision, dismissal duty, assembly program, assistance, or attendance at special events
When requested by the admissions department:
Attend admissions open houses and/or present at curriculum nights
Participate in group and/or individual candidate assessment days
Observe candidates, on- and off-campus
Review admissions folders, provide notes, and participate in admissions decision meetings
Minimum Qualifications and Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to work in a busy environment with many interruptions and moderate noise levels. The employee must ascend and descend stairs regularly and be able to move in and out of doors throughout the day, following the school schedule.

Tenacre School is a small, co-educational day school for children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Six. Our mission is to "nurture and challenge each child, every day." Tenacre enrolls 194 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 6th Grade, and has a teaching staff of 35, including special subject teachers for science, Spanish, art, technology, library, music, P.E., and Spanish. Tenacre also has resource teachers for reading and math to maintain small group learning. Supporting the operation of the school are the academic, admission/enrollment, business, and development offices.
