Latin School of Chicago is seeking an experienced full-time Lower School (Elementary) Lead Teacher to join our team starting in the Fall 2025.

Our Lower School Lead Teacher teaches core curriculum; literacy, mathematics, and social studies in a self-contained classroom. This position works in collaboration with other members of the Lower School team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement unit plans and implement age-appropriate curriculum to nurture and stimulate all domains of children’s development in their care
Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children's learning and growth
Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the children’s background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic and familial values and beliefs into daily instruction
Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety
Strong technology skills and the ability to fully embed technology into the instructional program
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
Assess student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration
Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members by communicating in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner
Meet the needs of the whole child and support the social/emotional growth of all students
Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
Maintain a safe, organized classroom, which supports students’ independent learning, collaboration and choice
Write personalized, detailed narratives throughout the year that effectively and accurately communicate the child’s progress in all subject areas
Attend and participate in all aspect of lower school life (grade level meetings, vertical team meetings, assemblies, parent communication, divisional and cross-divisional meetings)
Direct and mentor assistant teachers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students
Fulfill the role of cooperating teacher for assistant teachers completing student teaching requirements
Actively participate in on-going embedded professional development and professional learning communities

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in education and 3-5 years teaching experience is required
Master’s degree in elementary education or a related field is preferred
3+ years’ experience teaching and designing curriculum with developmentally appropriate practices for children 5-10 years of age
