The Chapin School, an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, seeks a student-centered, collaborative, and innovative educator to serve as K-12 Physical Education Teacher and Coach..
As a K-12 Physical Education Teacher, this person will work with the Physical Education team to develop skills-based curriculum and teach daily physical education classes as assigned. As an The person in this role will coach at least two athletics seasons, as assigned. They will report both to the Lower, Middle, and Upper School Heads of Physical Education and to the Director of Athletics.

The ability to utilize proven, research-based strategies for classroom management, lesson planning, instructional delivery, and the inclusion of technology
The ability to develop and teach a skills-based physical education curriculum, including sport, fitness, and wellness in K-12 as assigned
A student-centered educator who values each student’s voice, experience, and history, and who
Has a demonstrated ability to teach students across many different stages in development, from many different backgrounds, with many different learning styles, and of many different abilities and skill levels
Addresses the needs of individual students and modeling inclusive teaching practices
An educator who actively cultivates a classroom and community of belonging by
Collaborating with other faculty to infuse wellness into the life of the school
Aligning with our mission ‘to empower a diverse, ambitious, and resolute community of young women to thrive and lead’ while honoring the variety of gender identities our students hold
Having a critical eye to issues of equity and inclusion, including an understanding of how one's own identity plays a role in the classroom and on the field
A partner to students, their parents, and colleagues in teaching and learning who
Communicates effectively with students, co-teachers, athletes, and coaching team on a regular basis and communicating with families as needed
Has excellent leadership skills, modeled by adhering to the same expectations athletes are held to, displaying a positive attitude, participating eagerly, and is a source of motivation and inspiration
Has the ability to assess the skill level of athletes during tryouts and throughout the season, and making equitable decisions about appointing positions, playing time, strategy, and practice times
Prioritizes the safety of students and athletes above all else
Qualifications
Required
A physical education degree AND/OR 3+ years physical education teaching or fitness experience with a demonstrated understanding of elementary, middle, and upper school students.
Attain all required certifications prior to working with student-athletes (including but not limited to concussion education, First Aid certification, and CPR certification)
Experience coaching (athletics team or strength & conditioning) middle AND/OR upper school aged athletes
Preferred
Expericence coaching either varsity soccer, varsity tennis, or varsity badminton
While the below sports and levels are offered, candidates with experience at the varsity level for soccer, badminton or tennis are preferred.
Sports offered: (most offered at the Middle and Upper School levels)
Fall: Soccer, Cross Country, Volleyball, Field Hockey, Tennis

UNDER ONE ROOF
Chapin’s single building provides a unified learning environment under one roof for all students, the 128 faculty members who teach them and the 85 staff members who support all other aspects of school life.
