The Opportunity:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Upper School Science Teacher to join our team! This full-time position involves teaching students in Grades 9-12, with courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator who loves working with high school students and is eager to create an engaging, student-centered classroom.
What You’ll Do:
Teach & Inspire: Plan and deliver interactive and engaging science lessons that encourage critical thinking and curiosity.
Differentiate Learning: Use a variety of teaching techniques and resources to support a variety of learning styles.
Guide & Mentor: Support students academically and personally as an advisor, mentor, and role model.
Assess & Adapt: Use assessments to guide instruction and track student progress effectively.
Integrate Technology: Use technology to support student learning (e.g., SmartBoards, G Suite for Education, Blackbaud) to enhance learning.
Engage with Families: Communicate regularly with students and parents to support their educational journey.
Be a Team Player: Collaborate with fellow educators across grade levels to ensure a cohesive science program.
Contribute Beyond the Classroom: Participate in meetings, professional development, and school community activities.
Adapt When Needed: Be prepared to teach virtually if necessary due to unforeseen circumstances.
What You Bring:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Secondary Education, or a related field (Master’s degree and Virginia teaching certification are a plus).
1-5 years of teaching experience is preferred, ideally in an independent school setting.
Skills & Qualities:
Passion for teaching and mentoring high school students.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Collaborative mindset to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Flexibility, patience, and a student-centered approach to learning.
Commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.
Ability to represent NSA positively in the school and broader community.
