Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for a Part-time (0.8 FTE) Middle School English Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
Responsibilities The English Teacher position, reporting to the Middle School English Department Head, will join a collaborative team that is constantly exploring best practices for inclusive and culturally responsive teaching. Specific responsibilities include:
Teach three sections of middle school English to a diverse student body with varying experiences and exposure to reading and writing, with an emphasis on creating confident, fluent writers and critical, insightful readers;
Work with a diverse student body who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation. This work includes providing academic support for students with a variety of learning styles and strengths outside of class time (answering questions, one-on-one work, etc.) as well as employing culturally responsive pedagogical strategies to achieve equitable support and outcomes for all students;
Collaborate and participate in the work of the English Department to develop innovative, equitable, and inclusive curricula, pedagogy, and assessment strategies;
Write evaluations of students at each marking period;
Attend English Department, grade-level team, and faculty meetings as scheduled;
Act as an advisor for middle school students; and
Participate in the life of the school community, which includes grade-level outings, admissions events, outdoor trips, and general engagement with student life.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field;
Experience teaching at a middle-school level or working with diverse middle-school aged students in some other capacity;
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
Commitment to and proven experience in integrating a range of literature and resources that represent diverse perspectives and identities (such as race, class, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.) into curriculum and class activities;
Demonstrated ability to facilitate difficult conversations about identity, privilege, systems of power, and how those systems of power affect us;
Creation of an inclusive learning environment where all students feel seen, valued and heard;
Collaboration on a teaching team;
Sense of humor;
Proficiency in technology and digital teaching tools;
Successful completion of three criminal history background checks is required

Salary and Benefits Salary Range:$55,952 - $98,672 based upon experience and education.
