The Lower School Learning Specialist supports students, teachers, and families in building academic understanding, confidence, and achievement. This role involves providing targeted interventions, collaborating with teachers and other school professionals to enhance instruction, and developing strategies to support diverse learning needs.
Anticipated start date: August 2025
Responsibilities
Work with students individually and in small groups to support literacy and math skills development as well as support students’ study organizational and planning skills.
Assess and track students' progress.
Consult with teachers to provide insights and recommendations for how to support students with varied academic learning needs.
Collaborate with teachers, Lower School Psychologist, Counselor, Division Head, and Director of Student Support to determine if a student is in need of additional learning support both in and out of school.
Create teaching and learning strategy profiles for students with formal testing
Support faculty to understand student learning profiles and partner with Instructional Coaches to differentiate classroom instruction for students with varied learning styles or specific learning challenges.
Participate in grade level meetings and Lower School Student Support Team as appropriate.
Facilitate Specialist teacher meetings to develop best practices and strategies for students outside of the homeroom classroom setting.
Provide professional development to teachers around topics related to learning variability and academic skill development.
Lead family workshops and talks in collaboration with other learning specialists.
Participate in curriculum night and parent/guardian-teacher conferences.
Collaborate with and maintain active communication with students' families and outside supports regarding students' progress, challenges, and learning needs.
Write narrative reports on student progress twice a year.
Attend Professional Development to stay current on research and best practices related to Intervention and Literacy
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Special Education or closely related field required.
Experience working with lower school students in a support role.
Knowledge of learning differences, neurodiversity, and effective intervention methods.
Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Training in multisensory or other specialized intervention approaches is a plus.

Salaries are determined based on a scale reflecting years of teaching experience and level of education.
