Lauralton Hall, an all-girls Catholic college-prep secondary school in Milford, Connecticut is growing and seeks a full-time School Counselor. Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
School Counselors at Lauralton Hall plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive and developmental approach to our School Counseling program.
Essential Duties of the Position:
Monitors students’ academics through their years on your roster
Supports students’ social and emotional needs including crisis intervention
Oversees students’ adjustment to Lauralton each year
Discusses academic challenges with students and helps develop strategies for improvement
Communicates concerns with teachers, guardians and administration as needed
Plans and teaches class seminars, including but not limited to First Year Experience – a course that addresses academic and personal dimensions of student development focusing on practical competencies, emotional wellness, physical health, and academic planning
Reviews curriculum for each grade updated each year
Oversees student course selection process annually and advises students on appropriate courses and levels
Refers to outside agencies if necessary, working closely with Apex and/or other referral agencies as needed
Collaborates with outside therapists and assists with academic needs
Advocates for accommodation plans for qualifying students and meets with teachers, student, administrators and parents on an annual basis
Collaborates on administration of any standardized testing for students
Supports the AP coordinator as needed
Supports college counseling as needed
Skills and Abilities:
Commitment to the mission and core values of Lauralton Hall as articulated by the Sisters of Mercy.
Passion for working with teenage girls in a complex and demanding academic environment.
Knowledge of mental health counseling practices.
Familiarity with school policies, laws, and ethical standards regarding student welfare.
Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills.
Ability to build rapport with student, staff, and parents.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and serving students, families, and teachers from all backgrounds and traditions.
Education and Experience:
A master’s degree in School Counseling is required
068 Connecticut School Counselor certification
Evidence of continued commitment to professional development
