The Buckley School in the City of New York, an all-boys K-8 + Academy Year day school, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is seeking full-time Lower School Assistant Teachers for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Assistant Teachers are an integral part of Buckley’s Lower School, working with the Head Teachers in each kindergarten through 4th grade homerooms. Our assistant teaching program allows educators to hone their pedagogical practices as they receive mentorship, coaching and professional development. The end goal of the program is for all Assistant Teachers to feel as though they are equipped with the skills and experience needed to secure a Head Teacher position at a school of their choosing.
Key Responsibilities:
Effectively collaborate with the Head Teacher to plan, prepare and teach lessons, such as math, language arts, social studies, writing and social emotional learning.
Actively participate in daily classroom management and transportation logistics.
Communicate regularly with the Head Teacher and administration about students’ academic progress and their social/emotional growth.
Complete progress monitoring and benchmark assessments in reading and math.
Plan and teach small group and whole group lessons across a variety of content areas.
Lead an early morning math or literacy group as well as a small, targeted reading group.
Support the Head Teacher in preparing written reports for each student.
Participate in weekly grade level meetings pertaining to curriculum, data, student social emotional development, etc.
Participate in family conferences twice a year.
Participate in biweekly divisional faculty meetings.
Participate in biweekly Assistant Teacher meetings.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree (in Education preferred)
Master’s Degree in Education in progress or seeking to pursue in the near future
Previous experience working with Lower School aged children and/or a desire to learn how to teach in primary grades
An ability to work collaboratively
Strong communication skills in both oral and written forms
Strong executive functioning skills
Proficiency in Google Drive/Google docs
