National Presbyterian School, an independent, coeducational elementary school (Age 3 through 6th Grade) in Washington, D.C., is seeking Teaching Associate candidates for the 2025 - 2026 school year.
This role is designed for individuals who are interested in pursuing education as a profession and gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic elementary school setting. Teaching Associates work under the guidance of experienced homeroom teachers to support instruction across all subject areas, lead small groups, and assist with daily classroom responsibilities and student management. They also participate fully in the life of the school and engage in professional development, participate in grade-level meetings, attend full faculty meetings and assume duties related to lunch, recess, and dismissal.
Teaching Associates typically spend one to three years in this role, gaining invaluable hands-on experience as they prepare to lead their own classrooms. To further support their growth as aspiring educators, Teaching Associates are encouraged to work with a variety of grade levels, allowing them to develop a broad skill set and a deeper understanding of different age groups. They also participate in regular meetings led by NPS faculty and have ongoing check-ins with their Division Director. Additionally, as a new faculty member, all Teaching Associates are paired with a faculty mentor for the duration of their first year at NPS.
