Germantown Friends School is looking for a skilled educator, mentor, and communicator who has proven experience in fitness, strength, speed, agility, and team training to build on a strong tradition of success through student-athlete development in our 6th-12th grade program.
Reporting to the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, the coach will share the responsibility of overseeing the fitness facility and the strength and conditioning program, and will work directly with both middle school and upper school student-athletes on all aspects of team development, weight training, speed and agility, and developmentally appropriate plyometric and functional movement progressions.
Responsibilities
Collaborate in establishing a fitness center orientation for students, coaches and community members.
Create team fitness programs that are developmentally appropriate to fitness/skill levels, goals, and sport specificity.
Work with coaches to establish best practices for their team's overall health and wellness.
Perform regular inspection and maintenance of fitness equipment, room cleanliness, safety, and organization.
Communicate, update, and enforce protocols for safe use of the fitness center, including promoting stewardship of the space for students to wipe down equipment after use, safely store equipment, and opening and closing the room, as well as overall acceptable behavior in the fitness center.
Teach and lead fitness classes.
Assist with a record-keeping system to trace and track use, trends and student progress.
Lead coaching sessions throughout the fall, winter, and spring seasons for middle and upper school teams, individual student-athletes, and small groups.
Provide opportunities for large groups, small cohorts, teams, and one-on-one individual sessions in the fitness center and at competition sites.
Collaborate with the Athletic Directors, Varsity coaches, and mental performance coach to plan for how to best impact individual sports programs within a unified philosophy.
Create and establish performance programming in collaboration with students, coaches, other faculty/staff, and departments throughout the school.
Assist with professional development sessions for coaching and Physical Education staff.
Counsel students and coaches on the Friends Schools League guidelines so that these values live fully in our day-to-day program and spaces and are a source of strength and guidance in times of conflict.
Help implement Positive Coaching programming in 6th-12th grade athletes.
Mentor the Captains Council and develop and implement team themes for middle school programming.
Help develop an intern program with connections to local university programs and performance specialists in the Philadelphia area.
Qualifications
Demonstrated commitment to promote and support diversity, inclusion, and community belonging.
ACSM and/or CSCS or similar certification required.
Competency and comfort with the use of technology, including Google for Education Suite
Ability to maintain a safe, structured, and productive environment while adhering to the values and philosophy of the school.
Schedule
12-month position
40 hours/week with additional hours for attendance at required functions, including evenings, weekends, and holiday breaks
Work hours are Monday-Friday, including practice hours
Modified summer hours to provide athletes with support all year long.

Employment is subject to satisfactory completion of reference checks (three references required) and proper clearances, as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Current (within one year) PA background clearances (PA Criminal, FBI/Fingerprints, PA Childline) are preferred.
