THE POSITION
The BFS Early Childhood program provides a rich, child-centered curriculum that supports children’s learning styles and developmental readiness. Our program is committed to nurturing the gifts of each child and providing a warm, stimulating, and emotionally responsive environment where children feel free to explore the world around them. Reporting to the Head of Early Childhood & Lower School, the Early Childhood Associate Teacher works closely with the Early Childhood Head Teacher to plan, create, and implement curriculum; conduct ongoing assessment of students; engage in active and open communication with families about children’s progress; and communicate and collaborate with their Early Childhood colleagues. Early Childhood Associate Teachers work as members of both a classroom team and the Early Childhood team, respect the children in their care, and maintain welcoming and respectful partnership with all BFS families. Applicants should have a passion for working with young children in play-based environments. All Early Childhood teachers are expected to be active community members and lifelong learners engaged in the support and care of the full school community.
This position reports to the Head of Early Childhood & Lower School.
Qualifications and Characteristics Sought:
Bachelor’s degree (Required)
Possesses, currently pursuing, or intending to begin work towards an advanced degree in Early Childhood Education (or related field) (Preferred)
Has experience working with young children
Approaches work with flexibility, patience, and a willingness to learn
Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Brings a passion and desire to create a joyful learning environment
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Support, collaborate, and participate fully with the Head Teacher for a Early Childhood class
Collaboratively partner with the Early Childhood Head Teacher in curriculum planning, implementation, and assessment
Assist with classroom management, including the modeling and support of prosocial behavior
Support all aspects of the development of students, with a focus on students’ social / emotional development
Work collaboratively with the Early Childhood colleague body including specialists
Maintain warm and open communication with families
Participate in daily maintenance of the classrooms
Engage in duties and care for the school community
Physical Requirements of the Job:
Must be able to work in an office environment including prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
Must be able to stand, bend over, twist and reach to access file cabinets, bookshelves and navigate office and workstation spaces.
Must be able to ambulate through a classroom setting, including walking up stairs.
Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40lbs in the case of emergency.
Union Status: Union
Salary Range:$58,769 - $60,400
This salary range represents the expected annual salary range for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your education level, experience, and other job-related factors.
