Position Description: We seek a full-time licensed counselor/psychologist to support the mental health and well-being of our students, through partnership with colleagues, parents, and outside professionals. This position reports to the Head of Upper School and works in collaboration with the administrative team and faculty. Experience working in a school setting is required.
Responsibilities:
Provide student support services (social, behavioral, emotional) for students from Little Gate through senior year. Offer prevention and intervention strategies to help students develop effective coping skills and responses to their environments
Triage and address immediate counseling and psychological needs of students. Provide leadership and guidance in crisis situations
Collaborate with division heads on specific student concerns and issues
Teach health education modules on emotional health techniques in Living Skills and Crossroads programs
Actively participate in the school community
Implement counseling and social skills groups to help support students. Integrate social emotional programs with the administrative team to address identified student wellness goals
Advise and educate parents and faculty of approaches to child development, student learning, and behavioral and social challenges
Foster multicultural competency and an inclusive learning and work environment utilizing best clinical and teaching practices
Develop and/or deliver faculty training/consultation and professional development opportunities to support and address the community’s specific needs
Requirements
Qualifications:
Minimum Required Degree: LPC, LCSW, Psy.D., PhD
Required Experience: 3+ years of clinical experience in school with ages 4-18
Effective interpersonal skills and proven success working collaboratively
Demonstrated experience in psychotherapeutic intervention and problem-solving abilities with children, adolescents, and adults
Discretion and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
Exceptional organizational and communication skills
Collaborates with flexibility, optimism, energy and a sense of humor
Understands social and emotional development of children and adolescents, as well as familiarity with rigorous school curriculum and culture
Work Conditions & Physical Capabilities:
Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate.
Regularly uses close and distance vision, including working at a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Sitting, standing, walking, running as required during the work day.
Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff and community members.
Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to reach, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
