Ojai Valley School is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 boarding and day school located on two campuses in Ojai, California. The Lower Campus serves students in grades PK-8 and the Upper Campus serves students in grades 9-12.
Summary of Position Ojai Valley School is currently seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time high school Director of Learning Services, under the supervision of the Head of School, Upper Campus, for the 2025-2026 academic year. Specifically, we are looking for a background in learning services and the ideal candidate has a degree within learning services fields, and has experience as a high school classroom teacher. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The Director of Learning Services at Upper Campus is responsible for the support of students in grades 9-12 with learning differences, and as a resource for parents seeking educational/psychological testing with professionals and school districts. He/she will be in charge of operating and maintaining the Learning Center as a classroom for those enrolled, but also as a resource for the entire student body.
The Director of Learning Services does not diagnose any learning difference, disorder or condition. He/she will refer parents/students to local qualified professionals and/or Ojai Unified School District, who can provide evaluations and make diagnoses if applicable. He/she may need to attend IEP/504 plan meetings, as well as organize dates, times and places of student observation, testing administration and follow-up meetings. He/she will communicate effectively with any educational professional working with students. He/she confidentially manages documentation such as IEPs, 504s, Neurological-Psychological evaluations, or other professionally-obtained diagnostic evidence for the needs for accommodations. It is the Director of Learning Services' responsibility to use professional documentation to create Formal Learning Plans to be shared with teachers at Upper Campus for class and testing accommodations. He/she maintains and updates plans, and provides support to teachers in meeting the needs of a student in their class.
The Director of Learning Services also applies for formal accommodations for College Board exams (PSAT, SAT and AP) and ACT exams if needed, and is the point person for the proctoring of these exams for students with accommodations. Clear, timely communication with parents and the governing bodies to obtain and proctor these accommodations is an essential component to this position.
The Director of Learning Services also oversees and/or teaches Core Program Assistance class, Language Assistance class, and Math Intensive class for qualified students. These small, limited-size classes provide individualized support to students. Core Program Assistance supports students in their academic classes by focusing on executive function skills; reading and writing strategies, and other individual areas of difficulty; Language Assistance provides a bridge between ESL and main-stream classes, focusing on developing academic language skills; Math Intensive supports success in meeting math class requirements for students with specific math learning differences or gaps. Monitoring expectations, success/grades, and areas of focus for individual students through communicating with colleagues and addressing any concerns with administration are ongoing responsibilities.
This position requires educational and/or teaching experience, superior organizational and communication skills, patience, and a flexible approach to working with high-school students. While he/she does not diagnose any learning difference, a sound working knowledge of learning disorders, learning styles, and strategies for increasing success is essential. He/she will work closely with other teachers, and as part of a team, in a boarding and day school environment. Other extra-curricular activities, supervision and duties are expected.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, and parents. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate grades, and possesses basic skills to work with budgets. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: California driver's license preferred. Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred. California Teaching Credential preferred.
