Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, aK-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is expanding its College Counseling Office and seeking an Associate Director of College Counseling/College Counselor (title dependent on previous experience) to begin August 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Support the overall operations of the College Guidance office
Responsible for caseload of approximately 20 students per grade
Facilitate student and family college meetings for assigned students
Develop customized college/post-secondary lists for assigned students
Help assigned seniors with all aspects of the college application process, including application completion, essay brainstorming and writing, and preparation for the transition to college
Oversee application submission process through Naviance for assigned students
Write personalized letters of recommendation for assigned students
Co-teach and plan a weekly guidance class for juniors and seniors
Serve as a resource for students, parents and teachers regarding post high school planning
Collaborate with College Counseling team to develop and host presentations for parents, 9th/10th grade students, and others as needed
Collaborate with College Counseling team to host college admission rep visits each fall
Assist in the administration of standardized testing for students with school-based testing (requires approximately 3 weekends/year, which you will be compensated for)
Assist in managing standardized testing accommodations request process
Assist in managing practice standardized tests, including Practice SAT and ACT
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
Minimum 3-years of experience in college counseling or selective college admissions
Strong skills in verbal and written communication, organization and time management, public speaking/presenting and counseling
The ability to connect and build relationships with a diverse group of high school students and their families
A positive attitude, welcoming demeanor, and desire to work in a team environment. Patience, flexibility, and a sense of humor are important as well
NYS Certification in School Counseling is preferred but not required
Experience working with students with learning disabilities is helpful, but not required
Compensation
80K-100K commensurate with experience
