Grade One Teacher

Waldorf School of Lexington, located in the Greater Boston area, is currently accepting applications for a First Grade teacher. Through looping, the class teacher will lead this group of children from first through fifth grade. 

Waldorf class teachers take a developmental approach to education, observe each individual child with reverence, and craft lessons to meet the students' ideals, fears and aspirations. By integrating the arts with history, science, geography, social studies, and mathematics, the class teacher offers a transformational experience just at the time the children are asking, “who am I and what am I here to do?” Lessons are crafted to include projects which exercise student initiative and build self-knowledge. 

Waldorf class teachers are storytellers, musicians, artists, and dramatic coaches as they interpret the curriculum at each phase of development. A Student Support Team and dedicated group of special subject teachers work closely with the class teacher to serve each student’s learning needs.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree 
• 2+ years of teaching experience
• Waldorf teacher training or willingness to pursue this training 
• Energy, commitment, and vitality for working with children
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues
• Interest in responsibly innovating the Waldorf curriculum for the 21st-century
