Job Summary: Greene Street Friends School is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Assistant Preschool Teacher to support our three-year-old preschool program. This role will work closely with the Lead Preschool Teacher to foster a warm, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
The Assistant Teacher will play a key role in supporting young children's social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development through play-based learning, emergent curriculum, and structured exploration. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic collaborator, passionate about early childhood education, and committed to equity, diversity, and social justice.
Other responsibilities include assisting in classroom management, supporting daily activities, collaborating with families and colleagues, attending meetings, and fulfilling additional faculty duties such as recess and lunch supervision.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in their instructional support and in cultivating meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Core Duties/Responsibilities: Support the Lead Teacher in planning and delivering a developmentally appropriate, play- based curriculum focused on early literacy, foundational math concepts, social-emotional learning, and creative arts.
Foster a classroom culture that reflects Quaker values, emphasizing respect, inclusion, and kindness.
Assist in guiding children’s social-emotional growth through structured activities and positive behavior reinforcement.
Work directly with students in individual, small group, and whole group settings, providing meaningful learning experiences.
Support students in toileting, self-care routines, and daily transitions, helping them build confidence and independence.
Assist with daily routines, classroom organization, and material preparation to ensure a smooth and engaging learning environment.
Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to communicate effectively with families about children’s progress, daily experiences, and developmental milestones.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.
Supervise recess, lunch, and rest periods in alignment with classroom routines.
Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school-wide initiatives as an engaged member of the Greene Street Friends community.
Other duties as assigned by the Lead Preschool Teacher or Associate Head of School.
Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient with Google Suite or related software A comprehensive understanding of the field of education and a demonstrated willingness to explore and embrace new pedagogical practices, technologies, and developing trends A deep understanding of early childhood development and a passion for play-based learning. Ability to collaborate effectively in a co-teaching model and adapt to the needs of a preschool classroom.
Education and Experience: Prior teaching experience
An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
At least 1–2 years of experience working with preschool-aged children in a classroom or childcare setting.
Documented prior experience in a classroom/education setting, experience in independent and Quaker schools highly desirable
A love of working with young students
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Over the past twenty years, the school has doubled both in enrollment and campus size. Current enrollment is 320 students on a campus of three acres. The annual budget is $5M, no debt.
