The Speyer Legacy School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate Middle School Math Teacher. The candidate hired will join four other Middle School Math Teachers and a Lower School Math Specialist and will report to the Head of Middle School. They will be responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to teach in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. Speyer’s Middle School math program includes both middle and high school level math classes, and the candidate hired will need content area expertise through high school Geometry. In addition, the person hired may be asked to teach middle or high school math content to advanced 3rd and 4th graders. The ideal candidate possesses a love of Middle School students, creative problem-solving skills, enthusiasm for designing innovative curriculum, a positive attitude, and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to cooperate and collaborate effectively with others.
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and implement motivating lessons in mathematics for 5th through 8th grades which reflect knowledge of curriculum, students’ interests and abilities, students’ social and emotional needs, and gifted education.
Be willing and able to work with a range of ages, including advanced 3rd and 4th graders.
Establish and implement rules for behavior and classroom procedures and routines.
Evaluate students' performance, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional.
Prepare student reports which include narrative descriptions of students' achievements and needs.
Communicate regularly with families about classroom happenings and student progress.
Demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning and professional growth.
Actively pursue professional development rooted in individual and schoolwide goals.
Demonstrate a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom.
Collaborate with colleagues, across and within disciplines and divisions, to further develop curriculum and design interdisciplinary projects/units of study.
Participate in the school community, including faculty and committee work, and school duties, which may include running an advisory group in the Middle School.
Promote respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion as a core value of the School, a shared responsibility in partnership with the school community.
Engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.
Coach the Math Team, support participation in Math competitions, and collaborate with other teachers to build and support our broader Math program.
Prepare students for the Algebra 1 Regents Exam and support the administration and grading of the exams.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of child development, best practices, and current trends in math education and gifted education.
Demonstrated classroom management skills, including allocating time, space, and materials for most effective learning.
Experience in differentiated instruction.
Creativity and innovation in both curriculum and instruction.
Versatility and flexibility both within and outside of the classroom, encouraging students to think creatively, work collaboratively, embrace failure, and communicate effectively with others.
Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Skill in creating a learning environment that is challenging, motivating, and developmentally appropriate.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field required.
Masters Degree and/or experience in gifted or Math education preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Salary Range
The annual salary range for this full-time position is $75,000-110,000. The position on the scale will be based on years of experience and education.
