Aspen Country Day School seeks a full-time teacher to join a dedicated early childhood education team. Aspen Country Day School welcomes children from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley from age two and half through Eighth Grade. Located at a campus on Castle Creek in Aspen, Colorado, it is fully accredited by the Association of Colorado Independent Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. The Preschool program emphasizes play as the major part of children’s work. Play is essential for building a solid foundation for success in school. Teachers help guide children to develop many skills—social, pre-literacy and math, fine and gross motor, as well as problem-solving—through playing with peers, playing independently, or interacting with their teachers. The program offers children abundant opportunities to make discoveries and observations, act out stories, resolve conflicts, and construct meaning through play.
Responsibilities and skills needed include but are not limited to:
Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inviting classroom environment
Maintain professional conduct and respectful, positive interactions with children, parents, and colleagues
Exhibit daily commitment, dedication, and enthusiasm
Treat children, parents, and colleagues with dignity and respect
Plan age-appropriate curriculum activities (monthly calendar, circles, art projects, math & literacy)
Update classroom materials
Spend one hour of planning that is built into the weekly schedule
Attend 15 hours of professional development (includes at least 3 hours on social-emotional development)
Possess a thorough understanding of early childhood development
Complete all annual state-mandated training on time
Follow the Colorado state preschool standards and guidelines
Follow Preschool policies and procedures
Attend meetings of the Preschool team as well as all-faculty meetings
Plan field trips
Write weekly newsletters
Keep parents informed of program activities and upcoming school events
Prepare report cards and attend Parent/Teacher conferences
Conduct assessments and collect observations
Assist with cleaning, sanitizing, hand washing, diaper changing, etc.
Supervise and maintain the child/teacher ratio at all times
Participate in program goal-setting and annual planning
Engage in a performance evaluation process with co-directors
Successful candidates will have:
Passion for teaching young children
Experience in early childhood education
Current Colorado Early Childhood Teaching Credential
Basic technology skills to use tools for attendance, health & safety, communication, and student information
The wage rate for this position will include a salary in the range of $50,000-$70,000; health, dental, disability insurance, retirement plan benefits, and housing support.
