Position Summary:

As a key member of the Lower School team, the science teacher will provide engaging science instruction to students in grades kindergarten through grade 5. The Science Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering an engaging, inquiry-based science curriculum that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of learning in young students. The ideal candidate will cultivate a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to explore scientific concepts through observation, experimentation, and collaboration. Additionally, the K-5 Science Teacher will actively participate in professional development, contribute to a culture of academic excellence, and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support student growth and achievement.

You will collaborate closely with the Academic Director to review, refine, and continuously update the Lower School science curriculum. This position is set within a beautiful campus, featuring raised garden beds and two dedicated science rooms specifically designed for the elementary division, providing a dynamic space for hands-on learning and exploration.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our science program and inspire students to explore and engage with the natural world around them.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging science lessons to Lower School students.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate science across subjects.
• Assign, assess, and provide feedback on projects/assignments.
• Partner with administration to develop the science scope and sequence.
• Support special events and other activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
• Certifications: State Teaching Certification (preferred); Certification in science (preferred)
• Experience: Proven success in teaching elementary education

• Strong understanding of science teaching practices
• Knowledge of child development and strategies that foster creativity and critical thinking
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Passion for science education and professional growth

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform duties that may include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling as needed.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
