ABOUT THE POSITION:
Hawai'i Preparatory Academy seeks a dedicated, experienced, and collaborative teacher to join our Upper School English Department as a full-time English teacher. The ideal candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and expertise to a range of English courses, including Advanced Placement English.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach five sections of Upper School English, including AP-level coursework.
- Design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking, reading comprehension, and analytical writing.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles and student needs.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and best teaching practices.
- Support interdisciplinary learning and encourage project-based experiences.
- Serve as an advisor, mentor, and role model for students.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to departmental and school-wide initiatives.
- Engage in all aspects of the residential school community, including athletic coaching, student advising, and supporting the boarding program.
- Obtain and maintain proper licensure for driving a school vehicle as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience, including Advanced Placement English.
- Strong content knowledge and passion for teaching English Language Arts.
- Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
- Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Experience designing and modifying curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
- Experience with educational apps and software to support learning.
- Interest in coaching or leading extracurricular activities.
- Ability to be trained to drive a CDL school bus.
Physical Demands
- Be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
- Be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
