Position Overview As a part of the Graland Library team, the Lower School Library Teacher will work collaboratively with educators and students to foster a love of reading and lifelong learning. This lead teaching position emphasizes engaging students in future-ready literacies (lifelong reading, digital, information) while nurturing curiosity and critical thinking. Working alongside the Lead librarian, Library coordinator and Lower School Innovation specialist, the Lower School Library Teacher will help create a welcoming and dynamic learning environment. Through interactive lessons and hands-on experiences, they will guide students in exploring a wide variety of literature and becoming skilled patrons of the modern library.
Reports to: Director of Innovative Learning Terms: Full-time, temporary non-exempt position 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, school year, starts August 2025 until beginning of June 2026.
Job Responsibilities
Teach Lower School Library Classes • Serve as a lead teacher for LS library classes, including developing lessons and writing report cards to reflect students’ learning throughout the year. •Strong knowledge of content area, teaching methods, learning styles and educational research related to lower school learners and readers. • Demonstrate an understanding of the scope and the sequence of the library and information literacy curriculum • Strong classroom management, communication, organization and planning skills. • Demonstrate problem-solving skills through collaborative work with students, teachers, parents and administrators. • Effectively communicate with parents and families about students as needed • Willing to support and actively participate in a professional learning community.
Library Support • Provide a functional and inviting library that supports school curriculum and recreational reading. • Inform students, educators, parents and other members of the Graland community of available library resources, their location and use. • Participate fully as a member of the Library team and perform related duties as assigned to support and meet the mission of the Graland Library. • Other duties as assigned • Teach and model the appropriate use of information literacy and technology throughout the school, including following and enforcing the school’s Acceptable Use Policy.

Qualifications & Requirements • Master of Library Science (MLS), or Education degree (B.A., M.A) and or similar background preferred. • Teaching experience required • Working knowledge of children’s and young adult literature • Wide depth of experience in technology and its applications • Ability to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers and skillful researchers • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with students and faculty with various backgrounds and skill levels • Communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students, educators, and parents

Compensation and Benefits Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Salary range is $55,000 - $65,000.
