The Spartanburg Day School is currently seeking a Middle School Faculty member (5th & 6th Grade Math) for the 2025-2026 school year. The Spartanburg Day School is a nationally recognized, nonsectarian school, enrolling approximately 580 students aged 2K to Grade 12. The Middle School Math Faculty is responsible for delivering engaging and comprehensive math instruction to 5th and 6th-grade students. This teacher will foster a stimulating and supportive learning environment, helping students develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of key scientific principles. The teacher will utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and hands-on activities to support diverse learning needs and ensure academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and SDS curriculum guidelines.
- Designs and presents individual lesson plans in one or more academic subjects using a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to various learning styles and methods.
- Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
- Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
- Monitors students’ progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for secondary (upper) school.
- Communicates all progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or division head.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents.
- Enforces safety and security standards for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.
- Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Math, or Middle Level Education with an emphasis on teaching math.
- Master’s degree, preferred but not required
- State teaching license preferred but not required
Experience:
- Previous teaching experience with middle-school aged children, preferred
- Previous coaching experience desired
- Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices in education.
- Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism
