Germantown Friends School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time teacher of French spanning both the Upper School and Middle School divisions. The ideal candidate has a strong competency in French, possesses a thorough understanding of France and the Francophone world, and has effective written and spoken communication skills. Collaboration with colleagues and the ability to design a French language-based curriculum in conjunction with the textbook series are key elements to this position. The candidate has experience in the Modern Language classroom, holds at least a Bachelor's degree (Master’s degree preferred) in a related field, and possesses a clear educational philosophy consistent with the immersion approach of the Modern Language Department. Knowledge of Spanish and/or the ability to coach would be an asset.
Flexibility to teach Levels I-V in Middle School and Upper School, collaborating regularly with colleagues on curriculum and lesson planning.
Collaboratively work on curriculum development and alignment.
Attend Department meetings as needed
Attend all-school meetings.
Meet regularly with school leaders as requested to discuss teaching work with students as part of the evaluation process at GFS.
Write narrative assessments based on well-maintained records of student work and submit them in a timely fashion.
Participate in parent conferences and meetings as appropriate.
Option to attend Meeting for Worship once a week.
Option to participate in school-supported professional development in the areas of teaching content, pedagogy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
