Position Overview: This is a full-time, 10-month position with a comprehensive benefits package and all school year holidays. The teacher reports directly to the Middle School Division Head.
Essential Responsibilities:
Teaching and creating innovative, student-centered curriculum in collaborative, multidisciplinary English/social studies classes
Collaborating closely in a co-teaching position with the social studies teacher
Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to create meaningful, interdisciplinary learning experiences
Focusing on active reading and decoding of language
Fostering text-based discussions in a student-centered seminar format
Teaching analytical writing, revision, and editing
Teaching and guiding students in the writing process from brainstorming to publication, with a focus on analytical and creative expression
Integrating public speaking, presentation, and publication skills into lessons
Working with the Learning Support team to integrate accommodations for students who need them
Designing and implementing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
Communicating with parents about student progress and challenges
Serving as an advisor to a small group of Middle School students
Supervising extracurricular activities, including class trips
Ability to use or willingness to learn digital tools and platforms such as Google for Education Suite, Canva, and Adobe Express to enhance student learning and communication
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English or related field; advanced degree preferred
Experience teaching middle school English
Comprehensive knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching methods
Ability to foster collegial relationships and collaborate effectively
Strong communication skills and commitment to parent partnerships
Passion for working with middle school students

The goals of the Trinity English curriculum are to teach students to read and think critically as thoughtful members of society, to write with clarity and insight, to listen and speak mindfully, and to value reading both for its intrinsic pleasure and its ability to help shape one's moral and social conscience. In partnership with the social studies curriculum, the English program seeks to develop empathy, citizenship, and civic action both locally and globally.
