Position Overview
The Red Oaks School, a Pre-K-8 independent school in Morristown, NJ, is seeking a Middle School Math Teacher for the upcoming school year. As an IB World School, Red Oaks emphasizes inquiry-driven, conceptual learning where students develop a deep understanding of mathematical principles. Our math program features a Singapore Math approach in the lower grades and focuses on pre-algebra and algebra in grades 7 and 8. The ideal candidate will have a passion for mathematics and a deep commitment to working with middle schoolers. Overview of Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engaging math lessons that develop students' problem-solving skills and conceptual understanding.
Teach approximately four sections of middle school math, incorporating real-world applications and mathematical reasoning. (Specific to grade level assignment, there may be some flexibility in terms of how the position is filled based on the strength of the particular candidate.)
Foster a love of mathematics by making learning interactive, engaging, and relevant to students' lives.
Utilize IB MYP principles to integrate interdisciplinary approaches and global perspectives into the curriculum.
Serve as a class advisor—advocating for students, fostering executive functioning skills, and maintaining open communication with families.
Create a classroom culture that encourages risk-taking, collaboration, and perseverance in mathematical thinking.
Encourage students to think critically about mathematical concepts, analyze patterns, and apply their learning to real-world challenges.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop an engaging and cohesive math curriculum.
Provide meaningful feedback and opportunities for student reflection to support growth and understanding.
Qualifications and Core Competencies:
Education & Experience: A degree in mathematics, education, or a related field with at least 3 years of teaching experience preferred. IB MYP experience or training is a plus.
Student-Centered Teaching: Familiarity with student-centered, inquiry-based methodologies and a commitment to developing critical thinkers.
Passion for Mathematics: A deep enthusiasm for math and a commitment to fostering a love of exploration and discovery in students.
Strong Connections with Middle Schoolers: A genuine love for working with middle school students and an ability to build meaningful relationships that support their academic and personal growth.
