The Director of Academics at HWIS is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of academic programming across both campuses, including the Spanish and Mandarin immersion tracks, English instruction, science, math, and specials (arts, music, PE, etc.). This role focuses on curriculum development, instructional quality, teacher professional development, and student performance. The Director of Academics works closely with the campus principals and a group of mentor teachers (Core Academic Group) to ensure alignment of academic goals with the school’s mission, fostering an environment of high expectations and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee Curriculum Design and Implementation- Develop and maintain a comprehensive, cohesive curriculum that aligns with the school’s mission and pertinent standards. Align Mandarin and Spanish immersion programs, English instruction, science, and math with national and international standards.
- Curriculum Alignment Across Subject Areas - Ensure cross-disciplinary alignment between language immersion, science, math, English instruction, and specials.
- Academic Policy Development - Develop and implement academic policies, grading standards, and assessment frameworks.
- Foster a Culture of Instructional Excellence - Set clear expectations for instructional quality & Conduct regular classroom observations
- Professional Development & Teacher Growth - Design and lead targeted professional development (PD), as well as identify appropriate external PD opportunities, in all subject areas for teachers.
- Collaborate with Principals and Core Academic Group on Teacher Evaluations - Work with the Core Academic Group of mentor teachers to support instructional leadership and peer coaching.
- Student Performance & Academic Outcomes - Oversee Student Assessment & Data Analysis, ensure academic support and intervention and foster high academic expectations
- Cross-Campus Coordination & Leadership- Ensure Alignment Across Both Campuses
- Strong background in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and academic program management.
- Proven experience in language immersion education (Mandarin and/or Spanish preferred).
- Experience overseeing science and math instruction in addition to language and general education programs.
- Excellent data analysis skills to inform instructional decisions and student interventions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to collaborate with principals, faculty, and the Core Academic Group.
- Experience in professional development design and teacher mentorship.
- Commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Master’s degree in education or a related field; advanced certifications in curriculum design or administration preferred.
