Overview: The Knox School, a private, coeducational, boarding and day school located on a scenic waterfront campus on Long Island, seeks a Residential Life Director to lead and elevate our residential life program. This is a full-time, live-in position suited for an enthusiastic, organized, and student-centered individual who is passionate about working with a diverse population of students from around the globe.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Residential Life Director is a key member of The Knox School’s Student Life team. This individual will design and implement a comprehensive residential life program that supports student development, promotes a culture of inclusion and respect, and ensures a safe and well-managed residential experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Residential Leadership & Programming:
Develop and oversee a vibrant, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate residential life curriculum.
Build strong relationships with boarding students and act as a mentor, advocate, and role model.
Activities & Engagement:
Plan and supervise weekend trips, social events, and on-campus programming that reflect student interests and cultural diversity.
Collaborate with other departments to support school-wide events and traditions.
Dorm Operations & Management:
Establish systems for daily dorm operations, student check-in/out procedures, and curfews.
Supervise and support residential faculty and student leaders (e.g., proctors, RAs).
Ensure clear and timely communication with families regarding student life and travel plans.
Student Leave & Travel:
Manage and track student weekend leaves, holiday travel, and transportation logistics.
Coordinate with the Academic Office and families to support safe and timely departures/returns
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required
Prior experience in residential life, boarding school environments, or student leadership roles.
Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
High energy, flexibility, and a genuine love for working with adolescents.
Cultural competency and a strong desire to engage with a global student community.
Ability to live on campus and work evenings and weekends as needed.
