Position Summary: Interlochen Arts Academy, an arts-focused boarding high school with a vigorous academic program, seeks an English as a Language Instructor who is also qualified to teach in an additional academic discipline to teach students in grades 9-12. The instructor will teach a full time load – 5 sections of class or the equivalent – a mix of English Language classes and one additional prep in another academic discipline – and will be asked to serve as a co-advisor to a small group of students. As a faculty member at Interlochen, obligations reach beyond the classrooms and studios to assist with the growth of the institution and full operations that are part of boarding school life. While not directly involved in student supervision in the residence halls (dorms), each faculty and education staff member is expected to contribute to the community through assistance with campus events, advisory groups, and other activities. This is a full time, permanent teaching position starting on August 22, 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach 5 sections of classes, a mix of English Language classes as well as classes in an additional academic discipline
Serve as co-advisor to a small group of students who meet weekly for 30 minutes
Hold daily office hours (which are built into the daily schedule)
Maintain a course page online through Canvas, take attendance daily in each class, keep electronic gradebook up to date, and prepare timely and thorough grade reports
Attend department, division, and full faculty meetings
Participate in all-school events at the beginning and end of the school year, as well as periodically throughout each semester
Support activities that are part of boarding school life
Seek the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness
Comply with ICA policies/procedures and acts as a good steward of ICA finances
Respect the culture, diversity and rights of all students, their families and the community
Prioritize duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth
Perform other duties as assigned
Work is performed primarily in a standard office and classroom environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact.
Skills and Abilities:
Education: BA in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, English, or related field required; MA in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or English preferred
Experience: Experience teaching English as an additional language, preferably in a secondary school setting; Familiarity with current research in the field of second language acquisition
Equipment Familiarity: Familiarity with the following technology / software / programs preferred:

Canvas or another Learning Management System
Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:

Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
