Purpose

Fryeburg Academy, a 700-student day and boarding high school in Western Maine and the Mount Washington Valley, seeks a Business and Entrepreneurship teacher beginning in the fall of 2025.  This position involves teaching one class during Semester I and Semester II, which could be offered during the school day or in the evening, depending on the instructor's availability.  The last three weeks of each school year are a stand-alone period called May Term, during which this teacher will offer an existing course that culminates in a significant student scholarship opportunity.  

Essential Job Functions

• Teach a semester-long Business and Entrepreneurship course in each of Semester I and Semester II
• Teach a May Term class on financial literacy
• Work with students to assist them in an essay scholarship contest

• A strong belief in independent education, and particularly the mission of Fryeburg Academy
• Ability to work with, encourage, and inspire students to seek continuous growth
• A willingness to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of abilities
• An understanding of how students learn
• Ability and desire to plan high-quality instruction, assess student learning, reflect on pedagogical effectiveness, and adjust approach as needed
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining high professional standards
• Basic computer literacy skills

Qualifying Education and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and developed, varied strategies for teaching. 
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in various educational settings.
• All Fryeburg Academy employees are subject to the Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record Check.
