POSITION SUMMARY
The after-school and camp coordinator plays a vital dual role within Hewitt’s lower school community, supporting students and faculty throughout the academic day and leading the management of the after-school and camp programs. This position is designed to foster a seamless and supportive experience for students, ensuring continuity between the school day and after-school hours. The coordinator is responsible for cultivating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment rooted in the School’s values.
By working closely with students, faculty, and staff during school hours, the coordinator builds strong relationships and a deep understanding of the School’s values, practices, and routines, laying the foundation for a cohesive transition to after-school programming. Professionalism, respect, and a strong sense of responsibility are essential to this role, as is a commitment to upholding a positive and inclusive school culture in all interactions.?? The coordinator should expect to spend approximately 50% of their time supporting the school day and 50% of their time in after-school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
After-School
Design age-appropriate and enriching after-school and camp projects and activities, and lead the instruction
Plan and lead capstones and showcases when families and friends are invited to participate
Send communications such as welcome emails and reminders to families, faculty, and staff to ensure all parties are fully informed
Coordinate with internal and external instructors to ensure the program's success
Dismiss students to authorized adults and keep an accurate record of dismissal times, drop-ins, and late pick-ups
Be responsible for snack distribution, space setup and cleanup, attendance, dismissal, and program supervision
Maintain and organize all supplies, equipment, and materials
Respond to emergencies calmly and professionally, and communicate with all parties involved promptly
Supervise child care on special days such as conference day, field day, and for evening events.
School Day
Support the lower school with lunch, recess, and walking duties
Provide coverage when teachers are absent
On occasion, chaperone students on field trips
Provide supervision during special community events, such as all-school assemblies and field day
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
Knowledge of and experience with supervising students in K to grade 6 and acting as a positive role model
Reliable and dependable
Work a flexible schedule to meet program needs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)
High intrinsic motivation and capacity for work, strong interpersonal skills, discretion, flexibility, proactivity, ability to set priorities, and sterling independent judgment
Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, and excellent organizational, technological, and follow-up skills
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Experience working with children from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade and a demonstrated commitment to building community
A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, development, or psychology, or similar experience
Culturally responsive approach to teaching
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology, or demonstrated ability to learn quickly

SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $42,000 to $50,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
