We are currently seeking a dynamic and innovative STEM Teacher with a focus on Science to join our team. The ideal candidate will be excited to teach courses in areas such as Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and/or Physics, while also collaborating on interdisciplinary projects that connect science to math, technology, and the humanities.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will help students explore science as a tool for understanding the world, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world application. This teacher will guide students through meaningful, hands-on explorations of scientific concepts, applying critical thinking and creativity to real-world challenges. TREE values flexibility, curiosity, and collaboration—so we’re looking for a teacher who brings passion and adaptability to the classroom, and who is comfortable working with students across a range of learning styles and abilities.
Responsibilities
Teach high school science courses tailored to your expertise and student interest
Integrate STEM concepts across disciplines through real-world applications and collaborative projects
Design and facilitate engaging labs, investigations, fieldwork, and experiential learning experiences
Support interdisciplinary initiatives by partnering with humanities, arts, and wellness teachers
Use a project-based approach that centers inquiry, exploration, and student agency
Support experiential learning through field trips, community engagement, and student exhibitions
Contribute to the ongoing development of TREE’s curriculum and instructional frameworks
Secondary teaching responsibilities in our elective program and across disciplines, depending upon background and experience
Engage in various facets of student and school life, including co- and extracurricular activities
Create a positive classroom environment that encourages open dialogue and active participation
Implement current and relevant teaching methods, technologies, and resources to meet individual student needs
Manage classroom behavior using restorative practices and contribute to maintaining a respectful and inclusive atmosphere
Maintain clear communication with students, families, and colleagues to support student success
Participate in faculty collaboration, professional growth, and community events
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University (Master’s degree preferred); Teaching Credential (preferred but not required)
Experience teaching science or STEM subjects at the secondary level
Expert content knowledge in one or more areas of high school science (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.)
Experience with project-based learning (PBL) or other experiential models
Passion for interdisciplinary teaching, innovation, and progressive education
Ability to design curriculum that balances depth, rigor, and creativity
Passion for progressive education and a deep understanding of TREE’s mission and values
Passion for fostering authentic learning experiences for students
Dedication to the whole-person development of young people, including enthusiasm for positive identity development and diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Background in learning differences and social-emotional learning preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, including a high degree of cultural competency
Commitment to anti-bias practices in the classroom
Proficient computer skills with Google Drive and Applications
Bonus Qualifications (Not Required):
Experience with environmental science, sustainability, or systems thinking
Comfort with integrating math, coding, or technology into science instruction
Experience mentoring students through independent research or STEM projects
